Question Dual channel possible?

Hey guys, I have a corsair vengeance 16gb "cmk16gx4m1c3000c16" xmp2.0 16 GB RAM. I would like to add another 16 GB of RAM with corsair vengeance 16gb "cmk16gx4m1D3000C16" xmp2.0 RAM. Can I use these models as a dual channel.?

That will be hard to predict, you have a 50% chance it could work. It is not recommended to mix RAM modules that were not tested to work together, since it is hard to predict the outcome. Even though half of the time it might just work fine, mixing and matching stick that may have different speed, CAS latency, timings,voltage, etc could cause a motherboard to refuse to work Even when they appear to be similar, the IC chips might come from different manufactures. To be sure that RAM will work together you should buy RAM kits. That's why manufacturers and vendors won't provide support for that configuration. I suggest you sell the 16GB and get a 32GB RAM kit to avoid issues.

The cmk16gx4m1C3000C16 has 16-18-18-36 primary timings.
The cmk16gx4m1D3000C16 has 16-20-20-38 primary timings.
That's the only difference in the ram. Mixing kits is always a gamble, most times it's OK, sometimes it needs a little fixing, sometimes its bunk.
That said, IF it does work, it will work in dual channel, at the rated speed of 3000, but will use the slowest timings, that being the 16-20-20-38 of the new ram.

No. Since the memory controller is physically part of the cpu, timings are far less important than they used to be, so you'll not see any performance loss although a benchmark will. The way Ryzen works, you'll get better performance from dual channel over single any day, but the way games bounce around fps every other second, you'd not notice the difference if you had both ram at the faster or both at the slower. You'd need to benchmark both sets.

Basically, if all you ever run in your car is regular unleaded, does it bother you if you aren't getting that extra 3mph top speed from using Supreme unleaded?
