Dual Channel Ram makes blue screen

Hi!

I have quite a problem that I have tried to fix for the last couple of months. If I use two sticks of ram in my PC, it bluescreens. I bought the two sticks together and I use them on a Dual Channel motherboard.

I use memtest to try all of these combinations, and they all end with millions of errors.

I use Corsair Vengence 2x4GB ram and a ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard.

My manual says that the ram is suppose to be A1-A2 B1-B2

This is how it looks when I try the different combinations.

Any combination of the two sticks result in bluescreens.

I can use any of the two sticks in any slot alone and no errors or bluescreens. I run memtest 10 full runs on each slot with each stick.

I have already tried:
Checking the timings
Poking at bios
-XMS3 settings
-Overclocking
-Underclocking
Blowing on it
Cleaning it
Sworn eternal suffering on them
Made sweet love to them
Gone to therapy with them

I will be here all day to give answers and try things.

Thanks for reading this and helping me! c:

Couple of questions did you buy a 2x4gb kit, or did you buy 2 4gb sticks, what speed sticks are they and what timings are you running them at, are the suppoed to run at? can you send us the link to the exact memory you bought? Close isn't good enough 😛

I bought that.

Can you tell me how I can see what speed they are at? And the timing, I have forgotten.

Thats the Memory tab

Okay this tells me they are running at 1333 MHz CL9 (which is typical default timing/speed) Easiest way to get them @ 1600 CL9 would be enable XMP but that does you no good if they just bluescreen when 2 sticks are present. If you havn't already I suggest updating your bios as a lot of the bios updates are for memory compatibility or stability. SEe if that helps you get two sticks up and running, once you get them to not fail at normal settings enable xmp and enjoy your system, Hopefully the bios update will fix the issue?

Ok, so let me just repeat what I understand here. You want me to update my bios and put both sticks in? Should I run memtest after that? How do I know which XMP settings?

There should only be 1 set of XMP settings, but if there isn't you want the ones that are 1600 MHz, 9-9-9-24 (not sure on last number but it won't be different) timings. And yes I want you to update your bios. Try to run them both stock first, or hell just go for it on the XMP won't likely matter most likely you'll either blue screen or you wont, the XMP part won't be the issue, not like 1600 MHz is difficult for that rig.

Alright, I updated bios and put in both sticks. I went into Bios and tested XMP profile 1 and set the DRAM frequence to 1600mhz.

This is how my Memory tab looks now.

There was this other tab. "DRAM refreence clock" which I didn't take off auto. The otherr options were "100mhz" and "133mhz". Was that something I should have changed?

I have had the PC running now for maybe 10 minutes.... No BSOD yet. I will keep you updated though.

So, I have tried to fix this problem for over 6 months now. And you, good sir, have solved it. Thank you. I don't know what I can do to repay you, but thank you.

That is exactly what it should look like... no promises it won't bsod on you again, but as for now it shows to be in dual channel like it is supposed to be, and running at 1600 MHz, with proper timings, all is well. Just close the thread with whichever one of those you pick as the solution and hope for the best. Make a new thread if something does go wrong and I or someone else here will be happy to help you.
