Question Dual channel ram question

After rethinking things, I want to buy another stick so I can utilize dual channel and have 16 gb of ram, however the ram is out of stock. Is it possible to use dual channel having a second stick from another brand but the same ram storage and speed?

Yes, it's possible. Even if you buy another DDR4-3000 CAS16 stick, you may have to relax sub-timings to get it to work. Not a huge deal. The more sub timings you match (16-18-18-38) the easier it's likely to be.

As I stated, the pertinent sub-timings of your existing stick are 16-18-18-38 (says it right on the newegg page you linked) which is usually the only info manufacturers are guaranteed to share on packaging. The first number (CAS) is the most important of the bunch (after MHz).

Though, using another module from another brand with the same specs might work, I don’t recommend that!

Best option is: selling your memory and buying a kit of 2 modules.

Second best option is: buying an identical RAM module to the one that you already have, and pairing it with the first.

Only Samsung, SKHynix, and Micron make the actual RAM chips. Everyone else just slaps their brand heatsink on top and ships it out the door.
