Dual channel ram

Hi. Just wanted to ask you a quick question. My mobo supports dual channel ram. Currently I have only 1 stick 4gb ddr4 ram. I want to know if the size of the second stick should be the same, so the dual channel is in use, or no (for example is 1x4 + 1x8 a dual channel or it should be 2x4). Thanks.

If you add another stick you should get another 4gb stick with the same model number as the one you currently have in there for the best chance at compatibility.

Dual channel mode requires two sticks be placed in either dimm slots 2 and 4 or 1 and 3.

Memory is guaranteed in the form it is sold in. Adding another 4GB may work but there are no guarantees both modules will be compatible with each other. Using memory that is sold in a single kit is what is guaranteed and recommended.

Dual channel makes a big difference. if you buy your RAM from an actual RAM vendor like crucuail.com they can help you get the right part.
