Best your system supports is 2x 2gb DDR2 533MHz according to HP.

DDR3 &4 not supported, system too old.

Motherboard determines memory speed. Couldn't find 533 memory but above 667MHz kit should run at 533.

It is recommended to buy ram in kits as theyre tested for compatibility when running the two modules together. Same goes for sets of 4 or 8 ram modules.

Each stick will operate on their own. Just so you're not confused that both memory doesn't have to be installed for each to work because it says dual channel on the packaging, it's only for compatibility reasons. Ram can be fussy with one another.

So my system supports total of 4gb ram??
2gb in each slot???

According to HP and the link you provided. See specifications on memory.

Actually it does mention single channel architecture there on HP's site. Looks like HP cheaped out on the chipset on that board. Being lga775 i thought it was dual channel architecture and single channel meant this model PC was shipped with one memory module possible for dual. Guess not. Sorry.

Hmm.... so max support is 2gb ram..

Also to clarify when buying a ram it doesn’t matter if it’s single channel or dual channel specified in the description. Correct?
And 800 MHz ram should work fine correct or should I go for 667 MHz?

Either should work at 533MHz. Beyond that, it is difficult to say. HP recommends 533 so it is possible faster memory could be installed. This information is not readily available unless you find someone on the internet with the same system and has tried. Or try your luck contacting HP.
