Dual Classing Woes

I'm having some difficulty dual classing. I know that I have to be human and
have 15 in the main stat of my first class and 17 in the main stat of the
second class.

Can a Ranger kit dual class to a mage? I tried to dual class a stalker to a
mage but the button is greyed out. I have 17 in CON and 17 in INT. But if I
try to dual class from a fighter kit it seems to work (as far as I can
remember)

Does anyone have a list of all the possible dual class combinations?

It has to be a valid multiclass option. So:

Fighter can dual to:
Mage
Cleric
Thief
Druid

Mage can dual to:
Fighter
Cleric
Thief

Cleric can dual to:
Fighter
Mage
Ranger
Thief

Thief can dual to:
Fighter
Mage
Cleric

Ranger can dual to:
Cleric

Druid can dual to:
Fighter

From advanced_dungeons_and_dragons.txt by Dan Simpson:

<quote>

Races and Multiclasses:
-----------------------

Dwarf Halfling
----- --------
Fighter/Thief Fighter/Thief
Fighter/Cleric
Half-Elf
Elf --------
--- Fighter/Cleric
Fighter/Mage Fighter/Thief
Fighter/Thief Fighter/Druid**
Mage/Thief Fighter/Mage
Fighter/Mage/Thief Cleric/Ranger
Cleric/Mage
Gnome Thief/Mage
----- Fighter/Mage/Cleric
Fighter/Cleric Fighter/Mage/Thief
Fighter/Illusionist*
Fighter/Thief
Cleric/Illusionist*
Cleric/Thief
Illusionist/Thief*

*Illusionists are not in all games, this could be considered "mage"
**Druids are not in all games

I forgot to mention this:

From advanced_dungeons_and_dragons.txt by Dan Simpson:

<quote>

There are several conditions to Dual Classing:

1) You MUST be Human.
2) You MUST be at least level 2.
3) You MUST start from a Class that can dual. Paladins/Bards cannot
Dual to anything, nor can you dual anyone to a Bard/Paladin.
4) The combination MUST be a valid "Multiclass." If you can't find it
on the list above (ignore the race restrictions), then you can't
dual it. An example of an ILLEGAL class would be a Fighter/Ranger.
Not a valid Multiclass, so you can't Dual it either.
5) You need to have sufficient Stats. You need at least 15 in the
Prime Stats of your current class (i.e. 15 STR for a Fighter) and
at least 17 in the Prime Stats of your desired class (i.e. 17 INT
for a Mage).
Note: Specialist Mages have an extra "Prime Stat" beyond just INT.
6) Finally there is also an Alignment Requirement. Thieves cannot be
Lawful, so a Lawful Good Fighter cannot Dual to a Thief. Also
Druids must be True Neutral.

</quote>

So the list of valid multiclasses also is the list of valid dualclasses.

No.

Constitution is also not the only Prime Requisite of rangers; they have
three (Strength, Wisdom, and...either Dexterity or Constitution, I can't
remember), all of which must be 15 to dual-class.

There is a .2da file that sets the stats needed to dual. What is important in
the pen and paper game doesn't matter.

Not in BG 1, BG 2 or IWD 1 but you can in IWD 2.

I tried to dual class a stalker to a

Here is a tip. If the multi class doesn't exist you can't dual to it. So
because you can multi as a fighter/druid you can be a dual fighter/druid.
However you can't dual to three class's. Not in IWD 1, BG 1 or BG 2. Of
course you can do almost anything in IWD 2.

So you already have the list in your manual Its the same as the multiclasses
just remember you can't dual to a triple class and can only dual to the two
class options.
