Dual core vs core 2 duo

Hello,
is it true that dual core new one is better than core 2 duo quad?

duo = 2 (duo/dual)
quad = 4
dual core = spec (as in it has DUAL cores)
core 2 = a series of processors
"pentium dual core" = a series of dual cores
core 2 duo = dual core, core 2 series processor
core 2 quad = quad core, core 2 series processor

core 2's are old now (both series/generations), there is the i series now (Core i3/i5/i7), even then there are 3 generations of them and many platforms/sockets

A "spec" is not better then "series"

a dual core is not better then a core 2 duo IT IS A DUAL CORE how can it be better?
