hmm.. got here a little late.. but my $0.02

Assuming that you have an SMP capable OS and
an SMP aware app. Then dual processors are
definately the way to go.

The reason is fairly simple, an SMP aware app
will create X number of threads, where X is
would ideally be 1 + the number of processors
available (at least it usually is on the Unix
systems). This allows more work to be done in
parallel. The reason you would want more threads
than the number of processors is because if a thread
blocks on an I/O wait, then it can be context switched
out and another thread can begin. If you had only
the exact number of threads as processors then if
a thread waits on I/O the processor has nothing to do.
This discussion then quickly de-generates into the
benefits/drawbacks of serial vs parallel processing..
which really is what its about.

Compared to a single processor machine, where each
thread must take its turn in line for the processor.
So even if your app can create more threads, it's
overall throughput won't increase, just its
interactivity (this was a major point on a couple
of my MCSD exams)

Intel Components, AMD Components... all made in Taiwan!

What is your problem man? Even if she is a man pretending to be a woman- she's never done or said anything bad about you. I think your signature is just as offensive as her name. But really, who cares?

they all have the same problems.
their mommy took away their jc penny catalog and now they can't see chicks in their underwear anymore.
they need ritalin, or prozac, or a life.
at least they can actually GET prozac and ritalin, the life part may be out of their grasp.

Yes, he can be stupid. BUT THIS IN NO WAY RELATES TO THE FACT THAT HE MAY BE 14. I am 14, and I'm sure I know 100x what you know. I don't think anyone should be treated with less respect because of there age, so long as they act like an adult.

Everyone has the right to ask a question and not be afriad of what happens because of it. You have no right to judge her. And being an IT professional doesnt nessessarly mean she puts hardware togeather think about it.

I agree with you Tempus, I happen to be 14 also and I judge people by what they say (or post) take Meltdown for example: I think hes an idiot because he posts like one.

I especially like the part where you said "You know, the people that drop $1k on a CPU and hook it up to their refridgerator to squeeze every last MHz out of it". That was pretty damn funny.
