Question Dual GPU support MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700

Hello,

I had to replace an older motherboard and tried to keep the new component upgrades to a minimum.

I have to MSI GeForce GTX 790 cards but MB seems to only boot with one of them. Before going further the board specifies it is SLI compatbile but on further inspection it states AMD ross-fire. Has anyone been able to get SLI working on this MB?

Second slot is only x4 so it kinda butchers performance. I don't think you can get SLI working on any Z690 mobo because in all of them top slot is wired directly to CPU while second slot is wired to chipset. Anyway, you should be able to run both cards together just without SLI. If system refuses to boot while both are installed that would suggest some problem (most likely with motherboard).

Thanks for your response SkyNetRising and DRagor. I used PCPartPicker to find a compatible MB which states it supports SLI or CrossFire. I think the underlying issue I am having right now is with power. After I sort that I'll post back the configuration that works.

Well, the problem is those standards work very differently (as far as I understand). Board capable of running Croosfire does not have capability of running SLI unless it also claims SLI compatibility.
