I recently ordered a second GTX 460 by EVGA to match the one I already have but I made the mistake of ordering the SE edition. While both cards have 1GB video memory and (almost) identical clock values the only difference between them is the one I currently own is the SC version. Will they still be compatible in dual SLI or will I have to RMA? seeing as the SE version is slightly weaker, I may return it regardless.

Solution

Due to having a different core count they most likely will not SLi.

I believe they will still be compatable to run in sli they will just both run at the lower clock speed of the SE, shouldnt matter much tbh, you can always overclock the se to match the sc version if it bothers you.

that's true i distinctly remember reading that the number of usable cores, shaders, and units is only slightly above the 768MB card. I think i'll just test it outand if it meets most of my needs i'll end up keeping it and save myself the 15-20 dollars that another SC would cost. thanks

Thank you for the BA but just an FYI before I close the thread, the GTX460SE has less usable cores than the 768MB or 1GB versions and the 1GB and 768MB cannot be SLi'd either because of the memory bandwidth difference.
