Dual HD 7950 or Dual HD 7970?

Hi, I built my new rig about three weeks ago now and all is well the one problem is that my 8800GTS is giving in and therefore I've taken this opportunity to complete my rig with a kickass gpu setup.

So the question is wether to buy two HD 7950's and put them in crossfire or two HD 7970's and put them in crossfire, Will I notice much difference in gaming performance between the two gpu setups because the HD 7950 setup is much better for my budget.

Also no need to worry about power consumption im running a 1500W PSU

Depends on your budget and what you want to play ofcourse. I bought a 7950 recently and I'm happy with its performance just by itself. 2 would be awesome but costly. I'd be inclined to setup an SSD Raid0 before I crossfired. 2 240G drives would give you plenty of room for heaps of games and stuff before you needed to uninstall. but check out that comparison.

What sort of FPS would I be expecting on games such as BF3 Ultra Multiplayer etc?

Get a 7950 Boost or a 7970 if you want Better Experience.

But 2x79X0 would be Overkill for your Computer. As you must be running 1080p

I wouldn't Suggest a Crossfire Build for 1080p.
Get a 7970 Ghz instead or a GTX 680

I would preferably get 1 Card now and wait for Next-Gen cards.
If I would like any card, I upgrade my GPU to that.
Or else I'll get another Card for a Cheaper Rate.

yes just get one card. the 680 is the best single card, but if you prefer AMD get the 7970 GHz Edition, its overclocked by the factory with a good cooling solution applied.

LOL the irony. Someone with nVidia graphics saying AMD has the better card, and someone with AMD graphics saying nVidia has the better card....


edit: and I think if you overclock the 680 relative to the overclock on the Ghz card, pound for pound the 680 is better.

then you remember that the 680 is voltage locked and the 7970Ghz and that the 7970Ghz is a boss at overclocking(usually 1100Mhz easy)while the 680 could go much further without the voltage lock

Yep only get 1 card (7970). You wont see too improvement with crossfire on 1080p

anyways on a 1080p monitor you will be able to max setting with the 7970Ghz or 680 on almost any game with 50+fps

Ahh... I forgot, You must be Having a 1080p 60Hz Monitor?

If so then you cannot see more than 60fps.

But if you'll have 144Hz or 120Hz, You'll see nothing more than 144fps and 120fps respectively

And 7970\680 Usually Max out all games @ 60+fps in 1080p.

So Crossfiring is something very stupid on 60Hz Monitor.
But getting 3 of them (5760x1080) will use the Most out of your SLI X-fire setup.

But I would recommend a GTX 690 over That SLI or X-fire.
