dual monitor help

So I have used a laptop all my life and plan to build my own desktop. With a laptop you only need one hdmi/dvi cable to run two monitors. If my gpu only comes with one hdmi cable do I need to buy a dvl or display port to run two monitors, or do I need to grab an adaptor?

I have don't my own research but haven't come up with a straight answer, and would like to know before I go buying anything

As long as you purchase a separate video card for the computer, then most video cards come with multiple plugs on them. Just pick any of the available HDMI, DVI, or Displayport port plugs on the video card and connect them to your monitors.


If you want a specific recommendation, what are the exact brand and model monitors that you have?

I don't remember the excat monitors i have but they are both the same samsung monitors with hdmi and dvi, i think dp too. i will be running a single 770. do i need to like get a hdmi splitter or go with like one dvi and one hdmi

Yeah, don't use splitters. Just plug each monitor into a different port.

One HDMI and one DVI is fine... or one DVI and one Displayport is fine too. Some cards might even have two DVI or HDMI or Displayport, which is also fine. Basically, a separate port and separate cable for each monitor works best.
