Dual monitor lagging

Hey guys, The problem im having is overall laggy and chopiness when i plug in a second monitor. Im not even talking about gaming, just using a web browser on two monitors at once, everything is just so laggy and choppy. I have one monitor connected by DVI, and one by an hdmi to dvi adapter. Anyone know whats up?

Specifically what monitors?
It's possible it's the adapter.

It is the ACER gn246hl and a rather old LG 1080p 60hzmonitor. I forgot to mention, this exact setup worked on my old pc with a radeon 7950, except i just plugged two regular dvi cables, no adapters, because my 7950 had two dvi outputs.
