[SOLVED] Dual monitor, one wont go above 1080p resolution

I have a dual monitor set up that I am trying to get one monitor to be a different resolution.
Running Windows 10 with a 2080 Super, 1st monitor is an older Asus vh236h with hdmi (I want to keep this one at the 1080p), 2nd monitor is an new MSI G271 capable of 4k with display port connected (dp cable can do 4k).

The highest resolution available on the MSI monitor is 1080p and I cant figure out how to make it show the higher resolutions.
So far I have installed the monitor drivers for it, updated nvidia drivers and gone into properties, but so far no dice.
I want to be able to change it in the windows setting and not force it via nvidia control panel, I keep reading it makes the screen blurry doing that.

Even though maybe it was because I had the other monitor hooked up, so I did it just as a single monitor and windows still only gives me max 1080p selected

Hi realism51.

If that is the MSI OPTIX G271 it is a 1080P monitor and not a 4K monitor.

So i basically purchased an over priced good for standard monitor then huh.
Is there a point to keeping it, since 1080p on a 27" doesnt look that nice, and I wanted to have at least 2k.

Exactly.
What did you pay for the monitor? Overpriced may be relative considering the price of true 4k panels.

Well 200-250 for a good 1080P is ok but a 4K monitor is more like starting at ~400 for a 60Hz 4K monitor and that's the cheapest one.

It was on sale at Costco for $169 or $180 out the door after tax. (originally is was $210) Im using nvidia panel to increase the display to 1440p. I am fine with 2k because I see no difference really between 2k and 4k,
I was really hoping for higher resolutions without having to use the nvidia panel to force a higher rez. 27 inches at 1080p just doenst look as nice as the 2k

Yeah thats about the going rate for a monitor like that, I paid about 250 for my 32" 1440p monitor.
Budget 4k monitors start around 350+.

I personally would return it and get a 27" 1440p for a little bit more, that way you using true 1440p resolution.
