Dual monitor setup (DVI + HDMI)

I've had a 1 monitor DVI setup for a while now and i recently decided to add a 2nd monitor to my setup. I bought another monitor, plugged it in using an hdmi cable right next to my existing DVI port, and my pc will not detect it. I've tried 2 different monitors and probably 5 different hdmi cables, to no prevail. My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (MSI) and im pretty sure my research concludes that said graphics cards support dual monitor setups. Am i missing something?

If leaving only the HDMI connected, still no go? If yes, then card could be defective.
