Question Dual monitor setup, secondary monitor acting up and now affecting the main one

Mar 5, 2019
I have a main monitor Acer KG241 Pbmidpx, its a cheap but 144hz 1080p monitor connected with a DP cable which servers its purpose, 2nd monitor (to the left) is a LG M2394A 60hz 1080p connected with an HDMI cable which is kinda old and its pixel density is bad but for now i cant afford a new one, when i first set up the dual monitors about a 2 months ago ( added the LG one next to the Acer one which ive had for around 8 months now) all was working well then around one month ago the LG monitor would go black for around a second every 4-8mins, i wasnt bothered but a few weeks back it started happening once every minute and now its 2 times a minute and it turns my Acer main monitor off with it aswell. Is it my GPU? i obviously cant afford a new GPU but its still under warranty although i do tweak it with MSI Afterburner from time to time so it might be voided.

Boot to a USB drive with linux on it. grab a USB drive, a copy of rufus and a linux distribution. has tons of differing linux distributions and download links. I personally am fond of linux mint with cinnamon. the utility used to extract the ISO file to the USB drive.

use rufus to extract the selected ISO to the thumb drive. it will make the drive bootable and you can run linux from the drive once done.
Reboot into linux and proceed to test the hardware. connect to internet, watch videos, await problems.
if linux is good and stable the issue is most likely inside windows or otherwise software related.
this is a test of the hardware.
the displays app in the main menu (like start button) will let you enable the screen if needed.

changing software environments will let you know if its a software issue or the hardware failing.
