I will be running
i7 5820K
32 GB ddr4
980 GTX

I would like to run 2 monitors (extended desktop)
Primary purpose - Video editing
Secondary - TV/ movies + gaming (would I be able to use both? wouldnt the space betweeen monitors be a problem on FPS games)

What size (inches) and resolution would you recommend?

I currently have 1 - 24" AOC 2450Swd (worth keeping?)

Solution
It should work fine. That set-up looks amazing.

For Resolution: It's really up to you. To make it look it's best, get two of the same screens.

You could buy the same monitor again as the second screen.

Monitors really haven't changed much. That's still as relevant as current monitors. A lot of games will not play well with 2. Since that's the case, it really doesn't hurt to have a different monitor instead of buying an old one that isn't produced anymore. How much are you looking to spend? Do you want something bigger?

actually I found my exact monitor for 139 (staples online was only place) and I can use hdmi> DVI for one and DVI for the other.
Thats good for now as my new build far exceeded my original budget (lol)
so I will go with the dual 24" maybe down the line upgrade when they are no longer sufficient

thanks guys

I recommend you to install some multiple monitors software like an Actual Multiple Monitors, it is must have for working in multi-monitor systems. It gives you a independent taskbar with start menu and system tray on both screens, and provide you a great feature "ignore deactivation" that helps you to work on second monitor while you use fullscreen apps without it minimizing.
