dual monitor slot problemo

hello,

i've got a asus 970 setup whit dual monitors one monitor (main) connected whit HDMi
second monitor connected whit a VGA (DVI to VGA connector)
my pc sees the second monitor and my cursor goes onto the second one but its stays black
(and yes i switched my monitor input to VGA) but it wont work and stays black ?
anny sugestions ?

gtx 970 has 2xDVI inputs however the DVI to VGA (dsub) with cable or with adapter must be connected to the DVI-I input as it is the only one that can also carry analog signal!

As stated, you likely have the DVI-VGA adapter in a DVI-D slot which will not work. One of them is usually a DVI-D and one is a DVI-I, you need the DVI-I

well , actually you can only damage the dvi i inserting it to a dvi d input but just wanted to make clear about the dvi options. if your cable/adapter/dongle is a dvi a connected to dvi i may still not be able to display.

o i see now its a DVI-D to VGA connector but it also fits into the DVI-I output.
so i have to get a DVI-I to VGA connector then ?so this one will not work ? and what about the reg displayport ? does a HDMI connect to thad output ?
