Dual monitor switches off randomly?

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a Samsung 4K 55inch tv that I have connected to my pc via HDMI and a Samsung 4k 28inch monitor connected via display port which I use as my film making editing set up. Now I have been running them as a dual monitor set up but I have been having a few problems. It seems to be if I switch it so that I only have the pc screen on for instance in the display settings, for some reason after a while it goes completely black and the only way to fix it is to restart my computer. But I unplugged the TV and tested if it still happened with only the pc monitor plugged in and the black screen issue did not happen. I also tested it with just the TV plugged in and also no issues. It seems to work fine if I have it running on extended or duplicate display mode when both screens are plugged in but if I want to run only one screen while both are still plugged in it will just get a black screen after 5-10 minutes. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I have had this setup for a week or so and this only started happening yesterday.

My pc specs are
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79
CPU: i7-4820K 4-Core 3.70GHz
RAM: 32gb ram
GPU: Nvidia GTX 980ti
PSU 750W Corsair
OS: Windows 10

Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

Regards,
Daniel

Update: The black screen just happened while only PC monitor was plugged in so I am not sure what is going on now.

Update 2: PC just crashed to a screen with a sad face saying

"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info and then we'll restart it for you."

If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error:
SYSTM_THREAD_EXPECTION_NOT_HANDLED (nvlddmkm.sys)"

This occurred while I was in the Nvidia control panel
