Hello,

I have been researching this and continue to get different answers. Most of the answers I found from previous threads about this were from 2014 and 2015 so I am hoping to get some updated information. It also seemed like some people did it and others could not so the information was mixed.

I want to run 2 monitors, one with G Sync and one without. The one with G sync will obviously be the gaming monitor and I will use the secondary monitor for browsing and what not.. I am wondering if having this second monitor will at all cause any problems or take away from the performance of the G sync monitor?

Many people have said it causes problems unless they disable the 2nd monitor while gaming which I do not want to do. If this is the case, I will probably just go with an ultra wide instead.

Can anyone enlighten me on this? Im new to the forum so sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question. Please give as much info as possible. Thanks!

It will work fine. I do exactly what you are thinking about doing. My main display is a 1440p 144Hz G-Sync monitor. My secondary screen is a 1440p 60Hz monitor without G-Sync. Both monitors are connected to my 1070 by DisplayPort.

I don't have to disable my second screen when gaming or anything like that. Just enable G-Sync in both fullscreen and windowed mode in the Nvidia Control Panel. I run my games in borderless window mode on my main screen and use the second screen to control my music or quickly pull up a website.

Thanks a lot! by the way, are you able to switch to the 2nd screen WHILE the game is open? So if I wanted to change a song or something while playing a game, can u move your mouse over while the game stays in-tact or do you have to alt tab first?

That's why I run borderless windowed. It allows me to do what you are asking about in more games. Fullscreen seems to lock the mouse to the game screen.

That being said it depends on the game. Overwatch and Rocket League lock the mouse to the game screen during a match but between rounds they let you move to the other screen freely. My gaming keyboard does have music control buttons and that is what I use to switch songs during a round.
