Dual Monitors Help

Hello I'm having problems with my dual monitor setup. A few months back my laptop screen broke so I hooked up an external monitor and have been using that ever since. Now I wanna have a dual monitor setup kind of thing. The problem is, I have no idea how to do this. Would this setup be a triple monitor setup kind of thing? I've heard about making one monitor duplicate what's on my broken laptop screen and just hooking up the other external monitor, would this work?
