Dual partition of W8 and Linux

Hey community, I currently have W8 and i really hate it. But I use it because I think it may be beneficial to learn what it can and cannot do. On the otherhand I also want to try out Linux. I've looked up Dual Partition so that I can get 2 OS on one HDD.
Would it be a good idea to do a dual partition of W8 and Linux together?

And if its good, do I just Download the setup file of Linux on their official page and then boot it from the dual partition page? I have never used Linux before, anything would be greatfull

yes it is possible and very easy.
General Steps:
1) Download Favorite Linux ISO file (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora..etc.)
2) Burn iso to cd/dvd or use tool like LiLi (linked below) to write iso to a USB flash drive.
3) Boot your computer using the Linux cd/dvd/flashdrive
4) Proceed to installation. The installer will detect Windows and ask if you want to:
a) Shrink Windows partition and install Linux side by side (dual boot)
b) Overwrite Windows

Thats basically all. Linux will install its own bootloader (GRUB) that will overwrite the windows bootloader on your harddrive. When you boot your computer GRUB will give you the option to either boot into Linux or Windows.

I wasnt planning on getting rid of W8, just having both W8 and Linux on same HDD as two separte OS. But thanks! I now know how to do it
