[SOLVED] dual ram sticks

So my old main system was
Asus fx990 r2.0
Amd fx 8350 be "liquid cooled"
Rx 580 4gb oc dual fan edition r2.0
Ddr3 16gb hyperx fury kingston x2 8gb
Tp link t6e archer
Bit Phoenix case
Evga 750w gold rated
However the whole time after building it i had the ram sticks in the first slot "right next to the cpu" the second one in the third slot "so not quite the slot on the edge of the board but the one just before it". However every time I would show my pc enthusiasts friends my pc they would tell me I have my ram wrong they would be faster if you put the first ram stick in the second slot and the the second ram stick in the fourth slot. Well I just built an other computer a few months ago and it's running smooth but not as smooth as I would like... Is it true?

Your friends told you wrong. I haven't seen single board where it was not configured that way. (cooling reasons)
if in doubt manual it is.
You always want to populate BOTH channels to have parallel access and quite literally twice the speed.
