Question Dual RTX 3090 + Apple Display Studio monitor PC build

Hi everyone,

due to the performance/pricing dilemma, I'm forced to switch from iMac to PC build.
I mostly work with Blender and I need a dual GPU PC which is working with 2x Apple Display Studio monitors.
My biggest struggle is the Motherboard and the power supply. Do you have any suggestions, please?

These components I would like to use:

GPU: RTX 3090 x2

CPU: AMD 5950x

Tower: Torrent Fractal

Motherboard: ?

Power Supply: ?

Ram: ?

Monitor: Apple Display Studio Monitor x2

Well, it matters a little which RTX 3090 we are talking about as they will have different power cable requirements. Assuming 3 x 8-pin PCIe for each though should work.

RAM, presumably you want a good amount, 64GB at least?

Going to have to be a very large power supply, 1200W and up, which means that the logical ones to buy are going to be the big ones.

Motherboard is pretty straightforward, just need a board with at least 3x spacing between the two primary x16 slots. That will limit you to very expensive boards since NVLink SLI isn't exactly commonplace these days (and you don't need it, but that feature will set the motherboard slot spacing correctly)

That just leaves CPU cooling, storage, etc to look into. Can also look at some higher end motherboards for more useful features.

Not too convinced this is the best chassis for this, might want something larger.

Many thanks for the build example. But I still have some questions. Do I really need a 1600W PS? Which cooling system would you advise me? I really want the PC to be as quiet as possible.

When it comes to motherboards the only features I would need is the Thunderbolt 4.0 for the monitors, but I assume I can upgrade it with an external card afterwards.

1600W PSU is going to make the system quieter. At full output your GPUs alone will draw 700W, stock. RTX4090 are supposed to be 450W cards like the current 3090Ti, so it is prudent to err on the side of enormous. 600W GPUs are also a possibility, but that is likely an engineering sample. Cost difference between a 1200W and 1600W is only like $50-80.

You might want to look into 3090Ti if they aren't too expensive for you. They have all of their memory on the front side of the board. 3090 are known to have memory overheating issues since half the memory is on the back. Having two of them in the system is going to mean having one card with its rear memory sandwiched between the two cards. (That or wait and see what the RTX4090 brings)

CPU Cooling, Noctua NH-D15 is the common recommendation. A massive air cooler. Beyond that is getting into water cooling, 240mm or 360mm. Be quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 is another air cooling option, slightly cheaper.

Thunderbolt is a feature that has to be available on the motherboard from the start. The board I selected has it, but it is only compatible with:
