is there any good reason why I should use a dual slot over a single slot video card? I could get a single slot and save room for another card, like a wifi adapter or more usb 3 slots. do any dual slot cards use both slots for output?

A dual slot card will usually have a bigger cooling system on it. However big the card is it will only actually use one PCI slot on the motherboard, when they are referred to as dual slot it just means that the card is going to be plugged into one slot and will block the next slot along from being used due to the size.

Is there any good reason why I should use a dual slot over a single slot video card? Most high end cards will be duel slot. But if you have a choice the same card as a single slot or a duel slot. The duel slot will have better cooling. That's pretty much it.

so the single slot video cards have worse cooling?

I am looking to buy components for a new pc, could I get a case with 1 more expansion slot so I'm not covering a potential pc addon?

The quality of the cooling usually comes down to which model of the graphics card you choose, bigger cards usually have bigger heatsinks on them which for the most part does mean better cooling as long as it is good quality but this isn't always the case. A smaller less demanding graphics card probably won't get as hot so it does not need a large cooling system attached to it. You need to decide what components you want to buy and then choose a motherboard which will meet your requirements. There is not that much more you will need to plug into any of the PCI slots apart from a GPU. You can get a wireless card but if it doesn't fit it's not the end of the world, just buy a wifi donglee or something.

you'd need two pcie x16 slots, motherboard support of the crossfire or SLI, video card support of it, and a corresponding cable.

I only have one PCI E slot. So,Can't I connect a dual slot card?

correct. It can only be done with two pcie x16 slots and only with motherboard and video card support.

Yes you can connect a dual slot card into 1pciE X16 slot. Dual slot means the card will take up two expansion slots.

There are two connectors for the casing. But I don't have any removable slot above the PCI e SLot.

It will go like this :
