[SOLVED] dual vs single memory question

I have a HP Envy x369 laptop that has 4gb soldered memory and 4gb removable memory to give 8gb ram. It has a dedicated MX150 GFX that has 4gb ram.

I was thinking of replacing the removable module with a 16gb module to give 20gb memory.

My question is does this then drop the machine down to single channel or would I get 8gb dual channel and 12gb single channel?
I am making an assumption also that the MX150 GFX has its own 4gb cache of memory to use and doesn't borrow from the system ram.
I want to improve performance memory wise but most of all i'm just curious how it works :)

Solution
It will be single channel. BTW, are you sure your memory works 2channel now? Doubt that. No real-world benefit of dual channel anyway. So just get as much RAm as you want and you'll be fine.
my thinking was that 20gb would be better than 8gb dual channel regardless as its two and a half times more.
Whats the best way to find out if its currently running dual channel?

download CPU-Z utility, it will show info about memory. Like this:
