Dualshock 4 not connecting to PC

My dualshock 4 will not connect to my PC. I have tried multiple usb ports and cables and the same result occurs. It simply does not connect. However when I want to charge my controller it works through my PS4 so I don't think it is a dodgy connection.

Any help is much appreciated.

You need a 3rd party program to use your DS4 on the PC. At least thats what im doing with a DS3 controller.

This will make it work, and even work wirelessly if you have a bluetooth dongle. Only downside is the controls ingame will display as xbox controls, but the buttons are so similar it's really easy to translate in your head what it wants.
