Dumb Question, Sure It's Asked A Lot

Is there anyway I can tell if a CPU has been overclocked?
There's a guy selling one on Ebay but I don't want to buy a fried chip :s

Not really anyway you can unless you ask him. What chip is it and why do you think it would be over clocked?

Like a hidden counter for the odometer of a car? No. If the chip works without crash you cannot tell. Hell, if it does crash that still isn't proof of OC. If it's an old AMD Thunderbird there might be pencil marks on it...
