I guess this is not a win2k specific question, but rather an explorer question. But win2k pro is what OS I am using right now so... I remember back on my old computer running win95/98se I could make a link to "my computer" and have it open with the "folders bar" on the left automatically open. It's the cascading tree you can have on the left. How do I make this so that every time I open with the link, the folders bar is already open?

You might be referring to the "Windows Explorer".
It should be in your start menu, either under simply "Programs" or "Programs->Accessories". If you right click that, you may get a hint as to how to create a shortcut to it.

Alternative: not sure if this is the way to do it, but you could check out the options under how the windows are "viewed".

well, here is a dumb answer: right click on "My Computer" icon (or any folder you create on the desktop) and select "Explore" or hit "x" on the keyboard.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

even simpler:
hit the 'windows-key' and 'e' together and voila there's your windows explorer!

respect!
