Hi guys just a quick one, for current gaming not a year or two when its going to be mostly 4 cores used for games etc, what is better a Quad core with say 2.7 to 3.3 Ghz or a Duo with 4 Ghz?

I upgrade yearly and sell pieces so i dont need to future proof, just mean current gaming as Duo cores have higher Ghz speeds just obviously 2 less cores, and seem to be cheaper for that 4 Ghz

Or do games now really benefit from mainly a third, and somewhat 4hh core that its just better to get a 3.5 Quad core Cpu? thanks guys:)

You cant make the comparison you are trying to.
Cores and speed are not the only thing to consider when comparing processors, you have to look at architecture, as it makes a much larger difference than clock speeds.
What specific processors are you comparing here?

In general however I recommend say an i5 over a Pentium G3258, as dual cores struggle with modern games.

hey well i always pick intel processors so im trying to decide over an i3 Duo 4Ghz or a i5 3.3 Mhz QUad.

But just so i know in general too, is higher clock speed currently a better option than 2 more cores for the way games currently use cores, obviously in 1-2 years they will be using 4 99% by then but just mean for now:)

Not all MHZ are created equal!
A Q6660 vs a nerfed 5960x at the same cores/clock showed 10-20 frame drops in games (With a 980ti on the test bench)
What you really have to look at as gam3r01 mentioned is the architecture. I'm going to let gam3r01 finish this thread as he is the top dog on this subject. Just keep that in mind though.
