During windows 10 update screen turn gray

I'm trying to do the newest update for windows on my Acer Aspire E 15 Intel core i5-4210U 1.7GHz with turbo boost up to 2.7GHz Intel HD graphics 4400 up to 1792 MB Dynamic video memory computer. It goes thru the first stage then into the second stage it makes it to about 46% doing several restarts as it says it will do in the process. Then the screen just turns gray. The first time it happened I gave it a couple minutes and restarted my laptop. It then says it's trying to continue the update, but after a couple minutes it says it is restoring to the previous version of windows. It is fine after that, but no update.
I tried it another time and just left it going while I went out for a couple hours and it was still gray when I came home. I have tried pressing different keys to see if it will do anything while the screen is gray. It won't.
If anyone has suggestions or has dealt with this issue I would love to hear the solution. I use my computer for work so either need to just ignore the update or get it to work right.

Do not shut your computer off during any update, ever. I would download the ISO from Microsft and then update using a brand new image of Windows 10.

The screen turned gray and even after sitting there more than 2 hrs stayed gray and did nothing else. No progress or anything shown.

You can use the ISO that I linked to to repair your PC. Just download the ISO file and use Rufus to create a USB stick and then choose the repair option.

When you download the ISO image from the above link and use Rufus, you create a new installation media. By using the new ISO image you can choose to upgrade your existing computer and keep all of the files.

After that I would use the command prompt and run an sfc /scannow of your image.

If your talking about the screen just displaying a gray version of the colors, then just go to settings>display>3D display mode> switch it on and off
