DV stream and other video formats

I am looking for a program that converts mpeg/qt/AVI or flics into a Digital Video Stream so that I can combine some animations I made into my Digital movies using iMovie. Any program would do (either Mac or PC) but freeware shareware prefered.

not sure what you are saying here? mpeg, qt and avi are all digital video streams.

What format (codec) do you need to get to?
