i have been burning avi dvd's for probably 10 years using xp. i recently got a new computer and it has 8.1 . for a while the new computer burned like it always used to on the old one, taking about 25 minutes for a 4.7 gb dvd full of avis. it now takes an hour and a half. i remember that on xp once it had reverted to pio mode and once changed back to dma it worked fine again so i googled how to change from pio mode in 8.1. but it keeps saying you click on the drive and select properties and select the ide channels, but i dont have the ide channel option.

all i have under ide ata/atapi is the intel sata controller. i clicked on that, and there is nothing about pio or dma, but under another section is dvd drives, and so i tried that one, and it does list the dvd drive, but it has no option for pio or dma.

can someone please tell me how to see if its in pio mode, and how to enable dma? i'm guessing this is what has suddenly caused it to go slow, unless there could be another cause.

i did let it burn the dvd and it was a successful burn, but it should not ever take an hour and a half. i also tried several dvds to see if it was possibly the dvd disc itself, but it was not, it is the dvd drive. and it is relatively new, only a few months old, and it is an lg brand. it has always burned in about 25 minutes previous to just now, i have not done any type of updates whatsoever to change anything.

actually, just out of curiousity, i just now used imgburn instead of copytodvd (even though i had already uninstalled and reinstalled copytodvd to see if it was the program) and imgburn burned successfully in 24 minutes. not sure what my regular programs' problem is (copytodvd), that is the one i have used for years, and since i uninstalled and reinstalled already, without it fixing it, i guess i will have to use imgburn instead. i am so elated that it is not something wrong with my computer though, i sure wish i could get the program straightened out though, i have used it for many years, and i didnt update it recently or anything, so i'm not sure what got out of whack, but at least imgburn worked so i have somethign to use instead. if anyone has anything to try to fix my copytodvd problem, please offer, otherwise, i guess i will use imgburn. thanks for any suggestions.
