DVD burners

i have an old http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136144 DVD burner and i was wondering if it would be any different than a newer DVD burner, this is my first build and I am trying to save money were i can. but I cant tell if there is a difference or if this would work just as good
