my dvd drive is not reading discs when inserted, how do i fix the problem?

buy a new one, they are not that expensive.
if you want a solution. check if the drive appears in my computer. if yes try re-installing the drivers for it. if no, then check the cables and make sure they are well inserted. if problem still exists, try the drive in another PC, try different cables but if all dont work might as well get a new one.

You likely need to buy a new DVD drive... they eventually break. For example, on of my DVD drives no longer reads or burns to the 2nd layer of a dual layer DVD (8.5GB capacity).

You can try disconnecting then reconnecting the cable from the DVD drive to the motherboard, but I doubt that will fix anything.
