Ok first off I apologize if this has been discussed already. I thought I remeber a thread awile back on this issue but cant find that one or any others.

Just built a system last night and in the bios it reads the 2 sata drives as native IDE. HD is a WD SE16 sataII and also have a sata dvd burner. Mobo is a gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H.

I dont see a sata option to change it too in the bios. Are these drives still operating at sataII speeds even thou they are listed as native IDE in the bios?

TY for any responses.

Nothing is really operating at SATAII (SATA 3Gb/sec.) speeds unless you count the HD cache. IMO it isn't worth the aggravation to go AHCI, unless you want RAID. If you will want RAID down the road set up the AHCI now, it will be easier in the long run.

Thanks Zorg.

Ya I finaly found where I could set the sata controler to (SATA-> AHCI) and since I had no idea what that ment I figured I'd leave it alone. No plans for raid so it sounds like I'm good.
