Hey! I have Hp workstation xw8200,windows xp professional 32bit.

When i put dvd in dvd-rw drive, green led flashes and litle dvd image starts to spin next to my cursor, nothing happens.
-My computer detects Dvd-rw drive (D: ) but not dvd that's in it
-Windows media player, nothing, if i open it when the dvd is in the drive it crashes.
And sometimes my computer crashes for a moment if i click the Dvd-rw drive (D: ) when the dvd is in it.
Dvd drive= HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4166B
Any help would be appreciated :) (sorry for my english)

Will the drive read any other DVDs?

If you are attempting to read a DVD video/movie, you should know that Windows Media Player will not run it by default, you should download VLC media player which should play DVDs. Get it here: http://www.videolan.org/index.en_GB.html

If you are trying to open a DVD-RW and it will not open, then the disc could simply be faulty. You could try burning the disc again. If it is an OEM Disk, then check for scratches on the surface. or clean the disc to see if that helps.
