I am just wondering if I was to go buy a x24 sata drive would it be able to operate any faster then a x24 drive using IDE?

Help would be nice.

Solution
Theoretically, yes it would. However, whilst high-speed data transfer is desirable on hard drives & flash media, it's not always desirable or even necessary with a CD/DVD drive. Examples:

1. Watching DVD video or playing CD audio - higher speed would make no difference because it's not required.

2. Burning to disc - higher speeds (if used) can lead to write errors.

3. Although higher speeds are desirable such as when transferring data from CD/DVD/installing CD-based software, just how many times a week would you actually be doing that?
