DVD Drive not appearing in boot menu?

Well basically, I have an Acer Aspire One D250 Netbook. I have an external DVD drive that until yesterday worked perfectly, but now doesn't appear in the BIOS boot menu. If I use a Linux LiveUSB (The netbook has no OSes at the moment) I can see the drive in file manager. Could anyone help me? Thanks!

you can install either windows or linux from the usb thumbdrive. then you could sidestep the issue altogether.

Unfortunately I need to install Snow Leopard (hackintosh), and all ways to install Snow Leopard from USB require access to a Mac, which I do not have.
