DVD driver issue

Ok, so I just put together my first PC.

I decided to use my old cd/dvd drive which is IDE so i bought a convertor. The drive is recognised in the bios every other time i turn the computer on which is confusing me. Although that is better than originally when it didn't show at all.

So i have a new copy of windows 7 pro to install on my brand new HDD. When the PC loads the beginnings of the windows install, it doesn't let me go far because it asks for me to install the drivers for my cd/dvd drive (Sony DRU 190A).

I tried to download them on a different PC, pop them on a pen drive and install them that way but for some reason my new PC can't find them on the pen drive?

I'm thinking to just ditch the old cd drive and upgrade to a SATA drive... which will come with the drivers!
Unless anyone can think of any reason why my new PC wouldn't be able to see the drivers on the pen drive?

Oh, and if anyone could explain why my motherboard only recognises the cd drive every other time i put the PC on... that would be good too!

Cheers :)

I suspected you would say that. So why doesn't the Sony site have the actual driver?

I can't seem to find it anywhere 🙁

Oh, and I also tried the 'DOS driver' from the same site... didn't work either!

Yes I was aware that the DOS drivers probably wouldn't help me but they, along with the firmware update, were the only thing available.

There are no actual drivers anywhere it seems.

So with no disk, I will indeed be persuing the new drive route!
