Does anybody know where can I find a DVD encoder which can let me
acquiring directly in DVD format? I like to find a codec like NIMO
Codec pack or XviD... I'm not looking for a DVD acquiring software...
only a codec.

Thanks!

I'm afraid there's currently no such thing. Certain video
packages, like Ulead Media Studio and DVD Workshop, allow you to
capture directly to MPEG2 format, but to my knowledge there is no
Directshow Filter that will allow you to do it through a generic
capture program.

Any DVD playback software will have the codec.
Cyberlink PowerDVD, for example.

That's a hardware encoder. I think he said he was looking for
a software encoder.

Exactly!
I'm looking for a software encoder...
I'd like to find a generic encoder to capture directly in MPEG2 format
with any video capture software.
Also, all DVD player software let me to decode a DVD not to encode.

The thing is many of these programs say you can simply plug in a live
source, press record, and out comes a DVD. What isn't clear is which
will let you do the entire encoding+burning live --- most of the common
programs will encode live to HD first, then burn afterwards.

Well, the problem is that realtime MPEG2 capture usually takes
a lot of processor power, so the normal method is to capture in a
less-compressed format and then use a compressor like TMPGenc or
Cinema Craft Encoder to do the final compression. To my knowledge,
only the Ulead video products do an even close to acceptable realtime
compression job. Anyone know if Mainconcept sells a RT MPEG2 encoder?

Neil,
softwares I'm using to capture video find codecs like DivX, XviD,
MPEG4, ... on my PC. I installed many DVD player... but it doesn't
appear any MPEG2 codec!!
So, I'm not looking for a capturing software... but I need an MPEG2
codec. I think this would be used for real time MPEG2 capture.
Thanks 😉

I understand. I'm telling you that, aside from the experimental vvVFW
codec, I know of no directshow MPEG2 encoding codecs like what you're
asking for. To my knowledge, it doesn't exist.
