Question Dvd internal

Hi, I've got an internal dvd drive that I want to use as an external drive, any ideas of best way to do it or is it better just to buy an external optical drive?

edit: I’m not sure it will work, as it specifies SSDs.

Is it a desktop PCC with 5.25" drive ? or a tray in a laptop *

IF your drive is the standard 5¼" slot size for desktop machines, AND you have a USB3 port of some type in your computer, what you need is something like this

You mount your SATA-connection optical drive in it, then connect to it the USB3.2 Gen1 Type A cable (the most common USB3 cable, supplied with the case) to a computer USB3.2 Gen 1 socket, and the small "power brick" that comes with the case. You NEED to use the power module - no USB port can supply enough power to run an optical drive by itself. By the way, this case is described as for "USB3", but the names have changed. Now ALL new USB systems are USB 3.2 Genx , and the Gen1 version is the new name for what began as plain USB3. It has a data transfer max speed of 5 Gb/s, more than enough for use with optical drives.

For what your going to pay to get an internal drive as an external drive you can save some money and just get something like this
