DVD not recognized

I have a TEAC DVD drive in a Dell Latitude E6400. It shows up under "Devices with removable storage" but not under "My Computer". I tried uninstalling from Device Manager then running" check for hardware changes". I tried deleting upper and lower registry entries all with no luck. The driver shows it is a Microsoft driver dated 2006, when I try to update the driver from the Dell site it says it updated but it still shows the 2006 date. Getting frustrated. Any ideas. Thanks

Core2 Duo p8400 2.26ghz, 4 Gig DDR2 mem, the dvd drive is the original that came with the PC in I think 2008. Originally business PC with Vista Business but updated to Windows 7 Home Premium 64
