DVD Playback on Retro TV Set

I enjoy watching retro TV on a retro TV set from the 60's. I connect a DVD player to the TV via an RF modulator. This works great except when playing two older DVD sets which are about nine years old. When playing these, the picture is intermittently jittery and fine horizontal lines appear on and off at the top of the screen. Thinking the player was at fault, I tried connecting a new Blu-ray player instead and experienced similar effects. Could the discs have deteriorated somehow? (They are pricey commercial grade DVDs.) Thanks!!

Could be some weird copy protection to prevent the disc being copied. They used to do that on VCR tapes back in the day. It would play fine but try to dub it to another VCR and the copy was all fuzzy/lines/couldn't watch it.

Thanks for the response. I suppose that could be a factor. Of course these are the original box set DVDs and not copies, so I wouldn't think that would be the problem. I find it odd that all the other DVDs I've tried play fine, and the two problem ones are both nine years old. While they are older, they have been carefully stored in their cases. Maybe there's some subtle difference in the way discs were created a decade ago that's throwing off my much newer players??
