dvd played in windows media has no sound

when i open a dvd on my computer in windows media player, the file has no sound. however, when played in vlc, it plays sound.

(and no its not the file because it does it to all DVD files)

as vlc overrdes my computer everytime i install it, it is incredibly annoying for me to have to install it each time i want to watch a dvd.

can i fix this windows media player problem? -would regedit have anything to do with it?

You have disabled sound in mediaplayer somehow

Or , when you install VLC media player it gives you options for file associations . Nuke them all .
Then it wont take over anything
