DVD player dead

I have a Toshiba L775-17h Laptop. The problem is I can not open the cassette, I have tried to press the button on the side of the cassette but this will not open it and the light will not come on.the only way I can open it is by using a pin on the side of the cassette. the DVD player has only been used a few times, and I have not damaged it or dropped it. I think it maybe some thing to do with the Driver or software Can you help me please.

It is highly unlikely it is a software issue causing the tray to stick, I'm going to recommend replacing the optical drive with something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151271 or if you're daring, this used one for $8 http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/360750937082?lpid=82 For the ~$25 cost of a new optical drive, troubleshooting one really isn't worth it IMO.

Thank you for the information. I have just found out the laptop is still under guarantee so I have got a engineer coming on Tues the 24th.

That's great, I'm going to make a prediction here... the engineer simply replaces the optical drive.

PS if repair is done other than replacement, I'd be curious as to what they did
