My DVD player...not the media...issues the message//This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Pleae install a program or if one is already installed create an association in the Default Prorgrams control panel. The DVD player is not listed in the panel. I've rebooted twice & reconnected the player but still the message. It is a USB model x LGS.

Solution

When I put in a CD//DVD it does not autoplay. When I use My Computer to examine it I receive the message above. I rebooted-nothing. When I disconnected the player & reconnected I receive the message 'Application not found'.I also receive that message at reboot. At first I could use the Open command to retrieve a list of contents which would activate when I used an external device such as an audio player for music. It reached the point where it would not open. When I used the emergency open the tray would only partially open & I would have to pull it open to remove the media. It will not close again & needs to be pushed closed. I even activated an upgrade for it from LG but received the message 'Upgrade failed.' I'm assuming it just called it quits & no longer functions. I've never had a DVD Player failure in 20 years & I only bought this one less than three years ago. As I said, I'm pretty much writing it off as burnout.

An external player only opens part way and it does not close on it's own, only internal ones do. It's just on a spring not a motor like the internal players are. So it's behaving perfectly fine, you probably just have not used many external or laptop disk players and are thinking about it like you would an internal one. The could not find a program to run the disk just means that Windows does not know what program to use to play the DVD. Simply open Media Player and then open the disk manually from there and see if it works.

Do you see the disk player drive letter in My Computer? If you open that can you see the files inside? Try burning a blank disk with some files, did that work and can you then read that disk in the player?
