Question DVD player will not read "D" Drive.

I am running Windows 10 on a HP Computer. The DVD Drive will only show the "F" Drive and not the "D"Drive. After inserting a proper CD or DVD the door opens and says "Insert CD/DVD".
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

The displayed drive letter for the optical drive may be D, or it may be something else completely. F, in your case.

What DVD are you putting in there?
Have you tried it with a production DVD, not something you burned?

Yes Sir, I have tried new CD's and DVD's. But it is not recognizing any of the. This morning I replaced the DVD Player completely...but the results were the same. So I'm sure it's not a DVD failure.

Tried new cables to the optical drive?

No, was hoping I would not have to do that. Funds are low.

The power cable should be $0. Another tap. direct off the PSU.
SATA data cables are maybe $1.

If your hard drive and CD/DVD drive use the same interface, try switching the cables between the two and testing it out again.

Of course, if your system refuses to boot, after swapping cables, you've found the problem....but it's rarely THAT easy.

Just trying to look at the easy/cheap solution first.

Bad DVD (Tried it, not that)
Bad cables (Don't know yet)
Bad drive (Yet to be determined)
