DVD-RAM drive locks up computer

My DVD-RAM drive occasionally locks up my computer and causes it to crash. My drive keeps making weird clicking and buzzing sounds (very annoying). I am trying to burn a CD-RW right now and my computer can't even get past 8% on the erasing stage! This drive can sometimes work decently, but sometimes it really gives me trouble. Is there any reason it's doing this? Is there any way I can fix it other than replace it (typical Best Buy Geek Squad answer I have heard ;P).


Here is my log from ImgBurn from today. I tried probably about 2 or 3 times to get the drive to erase the disc as you can see:

Try different burning software. If that doesn't work, replace the drive.

Sometimes the Geek Squad is right.

My first choice in DVD-RW drives is Samsung. Second choice is LG.

UltraIso



Could the buzzing and clicking really be caused by the software?
