my writer reads and writes cd's and it reads dvd's but it does not want to burn dvd's

i have an acer travelmate 2480 the drive shows hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4244n ata device i've tried to burn dvd's wit the buid-in program that comes with windows vista and i have tried with nero 7 essentials i keep getting a mesage "insert a disk into drive d"
